Touch of fine tuning

Published in ‘Your Life’ – July 2001

Sometimes a therapy seems to work like magic, but it’s hard to understand why. It’s tricky trying to explain how a gentle adjustment to the skull can cause a massive change in bodily functions, overcome allergies and even help with the kind of health problems doctors don’t have an answer for.
Chirokinetics was developed by chiropractor David Stevens. Chiropractic treats disorders of the spine, joints, and muscles and maintains the health of the central nervous system and organs by use of manipulation.
David knows chiropractic could help with allergies, but felt it needed refining. Working with a naturopath, he started by concentrating on peanut allergies.
Naturopathy is itself a multi-faceted approach of diet and other natural resources for healing.
David Stevens also used kinesiology (muscle testing) and it was by combining aspects from al these different methods that he developed the new therapy of Chirokinetics.

Under attack

In today’s environment the human immune system suffers an onslaught from pollution, chemicals in food and stress. No wonders that it fights back, and brings on a range of nagging ailments including allergies to food, pollens, house dust mites, perfumes and household cleaners. At worst, allergic reactions can be potentially life-threatening.

Vicky Martin lost consciousness when she last had a local anaesthetic. She was in agony with a mouth abscess, but was unable to have the tooth taken out because of her allergy to the lignocaine in the injection.

For 30 years her life had been made a misery by allergies to silk, antibiotics, foods, perfumes, nail varnish, and many kinds of food. In desperation, Vicky visited David Stevens, who confirmed what her allergies were by giving her a series of muscle tests. Then he did a minor adjustment to her spine.

‘Afterwards I felt strange but I knew there a fundamental change was happening in my body,’ says Vicky. ‘I was unwell for 24 hours because the reaction was so strong but, after one more session, I was able to have that wretched tooth out. My allergy to lignocaine had gone. Now I don’t even react when I’m given antibiotics.’

Testing and tuning…

To identify allergies and problem areas in the body, muscle-testing techniques are used. Patients have to lie still with their right arm against the body. The therapist tries to pull the arm away from their side and they have to try to resist. At the same time they’re asked to touch parts of their body with their other hand, or hold small bottles of substances to which they might be allergic such as wheat, milk, potatoes, fruit and so on.
The therapist can tell where the weaknesses lie according to whether or not the arm resists the pressure.

The manipulation involved in Chirokinetics changes the body’s response and enables it to tolerate foods, chemicals and other allergens.

Chirokinetics works on the principle that allergic reactions: migraines, constipation, hay fever, bloating, eczema, asthma and many more are simply symptoms of a prime cause. Once this has been corrected, the manifestations disappear.

‘The nervous system affects everything that goes on in the body and is responsible for the actions of the immune system,’ explains David Stevens.

‘I find the right point of access into the nervous system – rather like a musician finding the right note on an instrument – and activate it with a gentle tap.’

The light tap vibrates through the nervous system transmitting energy from the outside environment, and bringing about a change in the nervous system. The Chirokinetics method is to give a minimal amount of treatment to enable people’s own immune system to heal themselves.

In many people the reaction is fast and the symptoms clear up quickly. The treatment can even be used for cancer patients, and has been known to halt the spread of the disease by inhibiting the production of the enzyme that causes cancer cells to grow.

Strengthening the immune system

George Conway was given a year to live in April 2000 due to asbestos-related cancer which he developed 30 years ago when he worked in a textile mill.

‘He was given no treatment nor any hope by the doctors. Visiting a Chirokinetics practitioner gave us the first ray of hope,’ says his wife Sarah. ‘He functions only on one lung but since his allergies have been identified, his breathing has improved and so have his digestive problems.’

Chirokinetics is a holistic treatment that strengthens the immune system and enables it to fight disease. So it works well for all illnesses.

‘I find the right point of access into the nervous system and activate it with a gentle tap.’

Pauline Clayton’s allergies were so bad that she had spent the summer in agony. ‘The doctor had given me hydrocortisone but by August Bank Holiday I was suicidal,’ she says. ‘My eyes were so itchy, I couldn’t sleep and I just kept putting wet flannels on them.

‘When I went to David Stevens, he confirmed that I had loads of allergies including perfume and metal – even the tap water I’d been putting on my eyes had been making them worse!

‘By November I was much improved and now I’m completely clear. It seems like magic, but it isn’t. I used not to like my face, but now I feel I look good and I’m walking tall.’
