ECZEMA – MORE THAN SKIN DEEP

Published in ‘Daily Express’ – Aug 2001

Every week we look at alternative ways to treat common ailments. This week Frances Ive looks at how to ease the distressing condition eczema.

Babies can get it, as many as one in five school children have it and one in thirteen of the population overall now have eczema. It is uncomfortable, itchy, and sore and is often due to allergies. The skin may be dry and hot, itchy, broken, raw or bleeding and it can make sufferers’ lives a misery. Doctors usually treat eczema with steroids and hydrocortisone cream, which can thin the skin if used over a long period of time.

CHIROKINETICS
DAVID STEVENS, a chiropractor, developed chirokinetics and practises in London and Surrey.

Chirokinetics is a relatively new therapy which eliminates allergies from the body. The first part of a session involves muscle testing to see what each person is allergic to. By asking the patient to hold a homeopathic preparation of the substance, say wheat or grass pollen, the practitioner puts pressure on the right arm to see if they can resist it. If the arm goes weak it indicates an allergy.

It also identifies where there are weaknesses and treatment involves a single manipulation on the spine or the head. This has the effect of passing a vibration through the nervous system and rebalancing the immune system.

We look at three specific areas: dietary allergies, external allergens such as chemicals, dust mites, moulds or creams on the skin, and tap water. Other problems include aspergillus fumigatus, a mould which becomes airborne and irritates the skin. Eczema may also be caused by eating food such as wheat with cheese.

Having established what the weaknesses and allergies are, a practitioner finds the correct point on the head or spine and does a single manipulation of flick. This rebalances the nervous system and supports all the organs, enabling the immune system to tolerate all the previous allergens.
